May 21, 2004

Area teams spent the night at Whittier Field, with at least one team member
walking/running the track at all times. The teams had recruited sponsors
to raise money for the American Cancer Society. You would be
hard pressed to find a more dedicated, enthusiastic bunch than these folks!

In addition to the teams, another way ACS generates donations is through the sale of
"luminaria". These are paper bags containing sand and a candle. For a $10 donation
you get a luminary that most dedicate in memory of someone who has died of
cancer or in honor of someone who has survived cancer. These line the track and
are lit at a 10:00 pm ceremony.

I bought a few in Sandy's memory.

This year's Relay was the biggest ever

for Brunswick, raising a total of over

$150,000!
