Anheuser Busch Brewery
Merrimack, NH
Starting out for Merrimack, in bright sunshine.
(And a very dirty dash. Good thing I'm not showing the car!)
The sun was gone within 20 miles. Sprinkles 10 miles later, then just
overcast with dry roads until about 10 miles from Merrimack, where
there evidently had been a shower recently.
The unsettled weather cut attendance to about half what this show
usually draws. A total of 97 Vettes were entered for judging.
At the table next to me, Gate City was selling tickets and promoting
their August 13 Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society:
Aloha Spirit Night - Hawaii '05.
Then the sun came out, and I had to dig out the sunblock - it actually was hot.
With Paula Beauregard: friend, who started the
annual fundraiser in Nashua, and future sponsor!
It was not to last, however. After nervously watching the thunderhead approach at
a snail's pace, I decided to pack up. Fortunately a bunch of Gate City folks helped,
because even then, we barely finished before the rain started.
The diehards stayed for the trophies.
After packing up the show site, the Gate City crowd retired to Jim Ecke's house
a couple miles away for the traditional pizza and beer.
The police line-up awaits the opening of the garage door to get out of the rain.
Thoroughly stuffed, and with a check from Gate City for
$250 for the American Cancer Society, I started for home.
Home. Still raining.
Thanks to the Gate City Corvette Club for their hospitality,
friendship and support. I will be sending the $250.00 to the
American Cancer Society's Bedford, NH office for their
2005 Relay for Life.
